About Me

My photo
I'm Kassandra an Oregon girl at heart. Attorney at Law. My parents are both U.S. army veterans and continue to serve in the military in other capacities. I have four brothers (two older, two younger) and three sisters (all younger). I love each of them for all of their individualities and their commitments to the examples set by our parents. Aside from my family, I have several friends who mean a great deal to me. Notable are my best friend from high school and my best friend from college, I'm strong in analytical thinking. I am able to process things from several viewpoints simultaneously. I'm open and honest. mid-summer blues

new hair

actually, i'm not blue at all. truth be told, i'm blonde! my natural hair color is dark brown, but since this is the summer between high school and college, i decided to have a little fun with it. rather than just dye the whole thing, i put blonde highlights in there.

the truth is, i don't really care for the look. it was nice to try, but i think it'll be back to dark brown very soon. i guess i'm just a brunette at heart!

the grandparents

my visit to the grandparents is nearly here. i leave july 29 for my mother's parents in albequerque, new mexico, where i'll also see some cousins i haven't seen in quite a while. i'm told some surprises planned for the visit.

the southwest has always interested me; i've always felt that mainstream education usually glosses over the mystery and beauty of the area.

after six days, i hop on a plane in albequerque and head to my father's parents just outside of lincoln, nebraska. i bet that'll be a huge culture shock!

these grandparents are not farmers, but they rely heavily on the agriculture industry. this is the heartland of america and i am honored to be hanging out there for another 6 days before returning home to portland.

i look at this as a very special time, as my grandparents are footing the bill for this trip -- my high school graduation present. i'm honored that i am able to spend this time with each of them.

trail blazers

with the exception of a few trade rumors and some fans' player wish lists, this is a very slow time of year for the portland trail blazers. i remain skeptical about many things involving the moves they have made.

however, this is my team and i will not stop supporting them and pulling for them to win. that's called loyalty, and that's what i'm all about.

not working

other than my travel, i feel like i'm not doing much this summer. i'm not working steadily for my dad like i have the past two summers (my 16-year-old sister, Jessica has that honor this year).

my mother is still settling into the new business and it's taking up a lot of her time. therefore, my responsibilities at home, especially with Monika, have increased. i have no problem with this since i am beginning to fear leaving my family behind when i go off to college. of course, that's a whole other blog.

Monika is truly the light of my heart. i love her immensely. i shall miss her more than i can fathom.

more updates to come!

  1. So what's wrong with the new hair? I haven't seen your old hair but I like the highlights just fine. Your trip sounds fun. Nebraska will be a huge culture shock for ya. lol. Lincoln is a nice little city though. I stayed there once on my trip for Portland to Missouri. And I completely understand your transition process to college. It's hard to leave home but you'll find that it has it's benefits. Although leaving the Blazers is always hard lol.

  2. well, my natural hair color is dark brown. it's not that i think it looks horrible, but i just don't think it's me. i'm really looking forward to the trip i've only been to nebraska one other time in my life, and to new mexico twice. in addition to my grandparents, i have aunts, uncles and cousins in both places. i'm beginning to have what i think is separation anxiety. i mention Monika in the blog, but i'm going to miss everyone here. i think of Monika more since she's so young and i fear missing out on a lot of great discoveries of hers. just writing that makes me tear up. the one bright spot to all that is that when my oldest brother was in high school, i don't think we were very close. however, he is stationed in san francisco. i think this is going to give us each an opportunity to become closer, and i'm told we will go to at least one of the portland-golden state games in oakland this year (not sure if there's one or two there this upcoming season).

  3. Nice! Good chances to see Portland whip up on those Warriors lol. But that's really cool about your brother. Family relationships are so important and it's good to hear that you understand that and want to strengthen your relationship with him. Hope your trip goes well and that you have lots of fun. Can't wait to read about it when you get back.

  4. yeah, we owe them for beating our reserves in that season finale! lol i have to look at the time with Brian that way, especially as i'm leaving my family behind. i like to think of it as running toward my brother and my future rather than running away from my family and my home. i'll send a few messages from the road, but yeah, i'm really looking forward to this!

  6. i have to look at it that way for my own sake. i think i'm already going through some separation anxiety already. hg is cool. he's the first person on MB's blog who made me feel welcome there. i can't believe you've not talked to anyone online more than me. that's cool; it means you actually have a life! lol!!! i met a friend online about 4 1/2 years ago and we still keep in touch. in fact, i just commented on her blog the other day! anyway, heading out tomorrow. ttyl!

  8. ouch! actually, i'm the type of person who signs on, replies to a message, then signs off. unlike a lot of people our age, i don't spend my days glued to the internet screen. i'm at the airport ... leaving shortly!

  9. I'm just messing with ya. lol. I do the same thing. I don't understand how some people can spend hours just on Facebook. I get on, reply, maybe look around a little, and get off. Just like I do with my blogs lol. Have a safe flight.
